Google Gemini AI has launched a new feature called “Canvas Quizzes.”
Simply put, it helps us use AI to generate personalized quizzes after studying. After answering, you’ll receive various learning tips, and a total score will be calculated to provide a “learning report” that clearly identifies which areas need improvement.
Using the Canvas feature in Gemini (originally designed for generating webpages, code, and reports), you can quickly create practice quizzes on any topic. You can also enhance the effectiveness of the quizzes with the following functions:
Use prompts to generate quizzes that meet specific needs.
Upload documents so AI can analyze the material and generate quizzes.
Use Gemini’s Deep Research to write reports, and then generate deeper quizzes.
If you encounter a difficult question, Gemini can offer hints to guide you toward the correct answer.
After answering, you’ll receive immediate feedback and explanations to help reinforce your understanding of key learning points.
Gemini automatically creates interactive quizzes with question types such as multiple choice or true/false. It’s not just useful for students—business professionals can also use it to review key knowledge before client meetings.
Although this “Canvas Quizzes” feature currently requires a Gemini Pro paid account, after testing it in multiple scenarios, I found it especially helpful for the following purposes:
Teachers and students uploading materials to quickly design pre- and post-lesson quizzes.
Self-learners uploading study notes to generate extended quizzes and reviews.
Test-preparers uploading textbooks or vocabulary lists to practice self-assessment.
Personal Learning Workflow: Use Gemini Deep Research for knowledge gathering, then Canvas to generate review quizzes
You can set up the following workflow with Gemini:
Launch Deep Research in Gemini and input your topic → receive a report.
Alternatively, upload a PDF textbook.
Based on the report, generate quiz questions with one click using Gemini Canvas.
Complete the quiz to test your understanding.
Generate more questions in areas where you're less confident to reinforce learning.
For example, I wanted to learn about Taiwan’s natural environment, so I used Gemini Deep Research to write a report on Taiwan’s ecosystems, environment, and climate. With this detailed report, the quizzes created by AI contained a lot of in-depth and specialized knowledge. The interactive exercises made learning much more engaging.
Gemini’s quiz feature also provides interactive hints that guide you to the correct answers and explain mistakes when they happen. After finishing the quiz, a detailed assessment highlights the knowledge areas you should focus on further. Based on this evaluation, you can follow up in Gemini by requesting new quizzes targeted at your weak points to review your learning outcomes.
