In this new era where AI can generate content and organize information for us, do personal notes still hold value? If yes, what exactly should we take notes on, and how should we do it?
My suggestion is to focus on “Tasks/Experiences” rather than “Information/Knowledge.”
Start by clarifying the real task you want to accomplish, capture your personal experiences, build your own workflows, and develop skills in planning, decision-making, and problem-solving.
What are “Tasks/Experiences,” and how are they different from “Information/Knowledge”?
The difference between AI-powered information organization and human task judgment:
In the past, when I wanted to develop healthier habits, I would collect tons of information, spend hours categorizing it, and feel like I was building my own comprehensive knowledge system on health.
But in today’s AI era, when I need reference material during execution, I simply ask ChatGPT’s Deep Research (or use AI Search), and I instantly get information organized according to my needs. Stay Ahead of the Next Big Thing — Delivered Daily 🚀
In the past, we had to manually summarize and integrate information ourselves to create a “reference note” tailored to our needs.
Now, if you have the right prompt, paired with effective AI models and tools, you can get well-structured information immediately whenever you need it.
For example, this is how my real notes are written now:
“Information/Knowledge” Notes:
I no longer spend much time gathering or clipping various reference materials.
Even when I read AI-organized content, I don’t necessarily save it all into my notes after understanding it.
As I read, I keep asking myself: “Which task is this information meant for?”
“Tasks/Experiences” Notes:
I open my task note, think about which step of the task this information will be useful for,
Then I directly convert that information into concrete action steps—this becomes the content of my notes.
During execution, I add my personal experiences, adjust the process, and refine it to better fit my needs.
AI can quickly help me process large amounts of information, but it cannot decide which piece is useful for me, nor can it replace the personal adjustments I make during execution.
I no longer worry about whether I’ve prepared or organized enough reference material, because AI tools now offer fast and effective ways to build a reference system, even customized to my needs in the generation process.

In the past, if we didn’t slowly build a personal knowledge database first, it felt like we couldn’t get anything done.
But now that AI is essentially a customizable knowledge management system, I can spend more time focusing on questions that are actually more important:
How should I execute this?
How does it benefit me?
What adjustments do I need to make based on my personal traits?
How do I design a workflow that suits my life and work?
