In the June quarter of 2025, India overtook China to become the leading manufacturing hub for smartphones destined for the U.S. market, marking a historic shift in global supply chains. Research firm Canalys reports that India’s share of U.S. smartphone imports surged to 44%, up from 13% a year earlier, while China’s share plunged to 25% . This transformation was driven primarily by Apple’s strategic relocation of a significant portion of its iPhone assembly from China to Indian facilities, motivated by trade tensions and potential U.S. tariffs. Additionally, government incentives under India’s Production Linked Incentive scheme and competitive labor costs have attracted other major vendors to ramp up production. While China continues to dominate exports to other regions, India’s ascent underscores a broader “China-plus-one” trend, reflecting companies’ efforts to diversify manufacturing to enhance resilience and mitigate geopolitical risks.
Apple’s official release of iOS 18.6 and iPadOS 18.6 addresses a critical photo-sharing bug that emerged following the previous update. With this build, users can once again share images seamlessly across Messages, Mail, and third-party apps without encountering crashes or upload failures. The new update also optimizes background photo processing, reducing battery drain during large album transfers. Google’s NotebookLM has rolled out Video Overviews, an AI-powered feature that converts user-uploaded notes into incredibly short, dynamic narrated slide shows combining rich AI-generated visuals, diagrams, quotes, and data points directly from documents, helping users understand complex ideas and workflows more intuitively .
