Microsoft has initiated limited testing of a free, ad-supported version of its Office suite, allowing users to access applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint without a subscription fee. This trial is currently available in select countries, including India.

Key Features and Limitations:

  • Advertisements: Users will encounter a persistent banner ad on the right side of the workspace. Additionally, a 15-second video advertisement plays periodically, approximately every few hours.

  • Storage Restrictions: Documents can only be saved to Microsoft's OneDrive cloud service; local storage on the device is not supported.

  • Feature Limitations: The free version lacks several advanced functionalities. In Word, tools such as drawing and design features are unavailable. Excel users won't have access to add-ins, pivot tables, or macros. PowerPoint is missing features like dictation and custom slide shows.

A Microsoft spokesperson commented on this initiative, stating that the company is conducting limited testing with no immediate plans for a broader launch.

Anthropic has launched Claude 3.7 Sonnet, the first Hybrid Reasoning Model, reshaping AI competition. This model allows users to switch between fast responses and deep reasoning, making it more adaptable.

  • Dual Thinking Modes

  • Advanced Coding Abilities

  • User-Controlled Processing Time

  • Users can adjust the model’s thinking time, balancing speed, accuracy, and cost.

  • Unlike AI models that focus on either speed or depth, Claude 3.7 Sonnet combines both, challenging OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and other competitors.

Available across all Anthropic plans, with Extended Thinking Mode exclusive to paid tiers. It also powers Claude Code, an AI coding assistant.

By pioneering hybrid reasoning, Anthropic strengthens its position in AI, offering a smarter, more flexible alternative in the evolving AI landscape.
