Last week, Google Gemini AI launched a new feature: "Canvas Quizzes." Simply put, it helps us use AI to design personal quizzes after studying. After answering, it provides learning hints, and through total score calculation, offers a "learning report" that clearly points out which areas we need to strengthen!

Using the Canvas feature in Gemini (originally used for generating web pages, code, and reports), you can now quickly generate practice quizzes on any topic. These tools make the quiz even more effective:

  • Use commands to generate quizzes that meet specific needs.

  • Upload documents—Gemini analyzes them and creates quizzes.

  • Write a report using Gemini's Deep Research, then generate more advanced quizzes.

  • When facing difficult questions, Gemini can provide hints to guide you to the right answer.

  • After answering, you receive instant feedback and explanations, helping you quickly reinforce key concepts.

Gemini automatically generates interactive quizzes, including multiple-choice and true/false questions. It's useful not only for students but also for business professionals—such as reviewing key points before client meetings.

Although this Canvas Quizzes feature is only available to Gemini Pro (paid) accounts for now, after testing it in various scenarios, I found it especially helpful for:

  • Teachers and students: Upload materials to quickly design pre-class and post-class quizzes.

  • Self-learners: Upload study notes for extended practice and review.

  • Exam preparation: Upload textbooks or vocabulary lists to create self-tests.

Example Use Case: Best Workflow for Self-Study

Use Gemini’s Deep Research to build your knowledge, then use Canvas to generate review quizzes.

You can set up a study flow like this:

  1. Use Gemini Deep Research to input a topic → generate a report.

  2. Or upload a textbook PDF.

  3. Use the "Create" menu in the top-right of the report to generate quiz cards via Gemini Canvas.

  4. Take the quiz to test your learning outcomes.

  5. Generate more quizzes for areas you're unfamiliar with.

I recently wrote an article titled: "Clear Your Blind Spots with Deep Research Before Googling—My 6 New Learning Workflows." It's a quick learning method.

For example, I wanted to study Taiwan’s natural environment, so I used Gemini Deep Research to write a report on Taiwan’s ecosystems and climate.

Next, I selected “Create → Quiz” from the top-right of the research report.

I also added a command asking Gemini to make the quiz easy to understand for general users.

This launched Canvas Quizzes, and the interactive quiz creation began.

Since I had the detailed Deep Research report, the quiz content included lots of professional and insightful details. Using AI to generate interactive practice made learning more engaging.

Gemini’s quiz feature also provides helpful hints to guide us toward the right answers—or explain why we got it wrong.

After completing the quiz, Gemini gives a detailed assessment, pointing out knowledge areas that can be further strengthened.

Then I can continue asking Gemini to generate new quizzes specifically targeting those weak spots for further review.

If You Have Study Materials Like PDFs or Vocabulary Lists:

For example, I had a PDF for English vocabulary learning. I uploaded it to Gemini and asked AI to generate quizzes based on the document.

Soon, the Canvas Quiz function produced a suitable Q&A quiz.

This is a great way to effectively review the key points of study materials.

You Can Even Create Fun Parent-Child Quizzes:

My kid loves Ultraman lately and always wants to play trivia games about the characters. So I asked Gemini to design a quiz on that theme—my child found it very fun!
